Copenhagen Admiral Hotel is located in the very heart of Denmark’s capital city overlooking the harbour front, The Royal Opera, Holmen and the new Royal Playhouse. It is a flagship of modern Danish design with an international atmosphere, where culture and design of past and present meet.
Michael Piper, who has been Building Manager at Hotel Copenhagen Admiral for the past 4 years, tells about his exciting job with challenges of many kinds. This uniquely designed Copenhagen hotel, opened January 13 1978, is housed in a converted 18th century warehouse. As the building is listed it was a challenge to create an interior design with modern facilities, however still with the special atmosphere of a historical building. Michael Piper underlines that when selecting products for the interior it is crucial to stay faithful to the history of the building. The products must have a timeless design that lasts for decades. The hotel is now a beautiful blend of old and new, however always with a certain timeless atmosphere. Michael Piper sees VOLA mixers and accessories as the obvious choice as VOLA is truly timeless. Even though the VOLA mixers were installed more than 30 years ago, they are still modern and in keeping with the times and the interior decoration that has been changed many times during the 30 years.
“Or course we make sure that the mixers are well maintained. However as VOLA is a modular system we only replace a spout if it has been scratched, not the complete unit. It is simple and easy as the factory is situated in Denmark and produce all the spare parts as standard items which gives us high supply security and short delivery times. It is very important for us that we can solve all technical problems within 24 hours, as the hotel is practically always fully booked. If the spare parts should have been ordered in China or even worse that the spare parts were out of production this would be impossible. So high supply security and the efficient service organization behind VOLA is very important to us. We are able to replace the spare parts ourselves. In this way every repair can be done extremely quickly”.
Hotel Copenhagen Admiral has the Eco-labeled Green Key because they want to protect the environment as much as possible. Water consumption is measured every month. All taps and mixer have water savers.
In order to disturb the running of the hotel at little as possible we make on-going renovations every year where lamps, carpets, TV, colours in the rooms are changed continuously. “We want to improve all the time. However the improvements must be in line with the history of the building and the structure and fixed elements of the building. It is amazing that the VOLA mixers that were installed 30 years ago still fit perfectly in the new interior and new products in the room”. “We keep an eye on new products from all manufacturers. We just received information about the new VOLA built-in waste bin which we find very interesting. It is definitely an option for our next renovation. We have many guests that come back to the hotel again and again. To them we have to show that we have improved a little since they last stayed at the hotel”.
